  • History: Peru is known for the Inca Empire, with Machu Picchu as its most important symbol. Independence is celebrated on July 28th. 

  • Economy: Peru’s economy is driven by mining, agriculture, tourism, and fishing. 

  • Music: Andean music, with instruments like the quena and charango, is emblematic. The Peruvian waltz and criolla music are also popular.  

  • Food: Peruvian cuisine is world-renowned, with dishes like ceviche, lomo saltado, and ají de gallina.

  • Traditions: The Inti Raymi festival and All Saints’ Day are examples of the country’s cultural fusion.

  • Mario Vargas Llosa: As a Nobel laureate and author, Vargas Llosa’s literature   has addressed political and social issues relevant to Latinos in the U.S.

  • Susana Baca:. A Grammy-winning singer and former Peruvian Minister of Culture, Baca has   elevated Afro-Peruvian music and culture, influencing Hispanic cultural   programs in the U.S.   

  • Dr.   Elmer Huerta : A physician and cancer researcher, Dr.   Huerta has focused on health education for Hispanic communities in the U.S.   through his radio shows and outreach programs.
